Why Digital?
“What is a digital painting? And why digital?”
What is a digital painting? A digital painting from me is still a painting created from scratch like a traditional painting would be. My method is very similar but my tools are different. Instead of pencil, paintbrush and canvas I use my tablet pen, tablet and computer. My blank canvas is opened on a program called photoshop. First I sketch, then I colour, then I add details, then I add magic to the background and then I save it as a jpeg. A digital painting is a computer file. You cannot hold it in your hands lol you can only look at it with your eyes. But you can then have this file printed if you do wish to hold it in your hands :]
And why digital? Well, I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember but when my parents got me my first tablet (I think I was 12), my world grewww. I was creating unicorn after unicorn back then lol. All of a sudden, with a tablet pen in my hand, my unicorns evolved, instantly became more magical. I crafted this way for years before exploring traditional painting methods too. The process of creating paintings digitally now comes quite naturally to me. I have explored other mediums, mainly acrylic, but digital painting suits me best and feels like home.
In my biased opinion, digital art has quite a few positives. One of my favourite things about it is how vibrant the colours can be. When I paint acrylic, no matter how many layers of paint I add, I can’t achieve the colours I can on my computer. I can create these vibrant paintings bursting with life and colour and there’s an extra layer of magic about them. Another positive – I can paint a digital painting for you from anywhere in the world anytime so long as I have my laptop and tablet with me. Since COVID, I’ve been moving around quite a bit, yet have still been able to continue creating for you. Once your portrait is completed, it can be delivered to you within seconds, free of cost. Just check your email:] I also love that, once it’s sent, you have the file virtually forever. Traditional art is timeless but it can also become a victim to time. With digital art, so long as you have the file somewhere, it is well preserved. And it’s versatile! You can take your file and do a number of things with it. I’ve had customers enjoying their digital portrait digitally – they’ve made it their phone backgrounds, profile photos, shared it on their socials etc. But most customers do take the file and bring it to life by having it printed. Some customers print it small and frame it, some print it huge and frame it, some print it and don’t frame it all and just blue-tac it on the wall like a poster. Some customers take their file and have it printed out on canvas. Top three most creative things I’ve had customers do with their digital portraits: one customer had it printed on her daughter’s school water bottle, another had it printed onto a blanket for her mother, and one customer took her digital portrait to a tattoo shop and had a tattoo designed from it! I love to hear it, let me know what you do with yours:] ..AND, if you do make a print from it, rest assured knowing you can always reprint it whenever needed/wanted.
